ObservationData.com exists for one job, helping you choose the right Earth observation data and the right company to buy it from. It is written for the people who actually have to make that call, the analysts, buyers and project leads weighing sensors and quotes, not for the research literature.

Provider marketing is built to sell rather than to compare, and it rarely tells you the resolution and revisit you can count on, how licensing really works, or what a scene costs once you reach a quote. Every page here answers those questions in the same shape each time, so two providers can be set side by side.

What is on the site

The site is built from three kinds of guide, and each one feeds into the next.

Provider reviews

One write-up per company, covering its data, pricing, best-fit buyer, strengths and limitations.

Buyer’s guides

Ranked, category-by-category shortlists, from high-resolution optical to SAR, thermal and hyperspectral.

Use-case guides

How satellite data is applied industry by industry, from agriculture to defense.

The lists above are the current picture rather than a fixed count, and they grow as the market does, which is why you will not find a running total quoted here.

How I choose what to cover

Coverage follows the buyer, not the search box. A provider or a topic earns a page when people are genuinely trying to evaluate it against alternatives, which is why a small operator with a real niche can matter more here than a household name with nothing to compare. Search demand shapes how a page is framed, never whether it exists.

Who writes this

Every review and guide on the site is researched and written by me, Sebastian Holt. How I work through a provider, and the background I bring to it, sit on my author page. The sourcing and checking behind each figure are set out in how we review.

Found an error?

Specs and prices move, and no write-up is ever beyond correction. If something here is wrong or out of date, tell me through the contact form and I will check it against the source and fix it.
